Logan Canyon- Utah Family Photographer

Updated: Aug 30, 2023

The Gunther Family decided they not only, wanted family photos this past spring-- but they wanted to make it an adventure for their two young girls. So we headed out to the beautiful Logan Canyon at 6pm one spring afternoon, stopped at Dewitt Picnic area across from the famous Windy Cave, and went on a little walk in nature.

Dewitt Picnic Area Family Photoshoot- Northern Utah Family Photographer:

If you haven't been to this picnic area in Logan Canyon you need to go! There are camping spots and picnic areas along side of the Logan River which runs next to Dewitt. There is a parking area as soon as you drive off the Canyon road and just ahead of that is the trail the leads you up to the Windy Cave, it's this trail that is perfect for fun family photos with a beautiful mountain backdrop. Here I had the Gunther family take there girls out in to the open field and have a little dance party together. We also stopped to let the girls checkout the flowers and play on a huge tree stump.

Most parents are nervous on how well behaved their younger children will be during their family photoshoot, and it is a valid worry. But being a mother of a young child myself I have a few tricks up my sleeve to keep kids engaged and having fun during your family session. It is ok to let the kids lead the photoshoot-- whether that be by having a dance party, picking out the next area for photos, or playing games like who can make the funniest face, mommy or daddy or having a race to see who is faster. I used some of these tricks during the Gunther family session to get the cutest family photos with their little girls.
